Here’s some “doggone” good reasons to add a little oil to your dog’s food.First of all they get bored with their dry food. Dogs love the taste of oil in their food. I sometimes add a pinch of cinnamon too. The oil helps dogs to lose weight . It helps break down the fat cells. We know dogs just don’t live long enough. It helps them stay healthy by helping their immune system. It contains high levels of antioxidants to help fight off diseases. (just like with people). It helps prevent free radical cell oxidation, which leads to premature aging. Helps to prevent skin allergies and slows down the shedding process. So oil is a “Dogsend”….but which one?I switch around to what’s in my pantry and it is usually “extra virgin” olive oil and coconut oil. I sometimes use salmon oil when I have it (it’s expensive). I have to say the cats love it! But the downside is that it seems to give them bad breath. On the outside I use a little Olive Oil to massage their coats. It keeps their coats shiny and helps with the shedding. I rub some on their paws if I see them licking or chewing their paws because it is usually allergies. It also helps with the removal of matted hair in both dogs and cats. Don’t forget the kitties. Add about 1/4 teaspoon to their food once a day. It helps prevent hairballs. I’ve never had any problems, only benefits but I did read sometimes dogs get loose stools from Salmon oil. If I noticed this I would cut back or switch to a different oil..So “drizzle a little” for healthy pupsters and furbabies!
